FA confirm application to change name of Charlton Athletic Women has been rejected

The Football Association have rejected an application to change the name of Charlton Athletic Women to Charlton Athletic Ladies.

US-based Danish businessman Thomas Sandgaard, already the owner of the men’s side, acquired the club from Stephen King in February 2021 and turned them into a full-time professional set-up last summer.

Sandgaard, pictured right, told our paper in December that he was still intent on the name switch.

The FA have issued a statement to the South London Press. It said: “The Football Association received an application from Charlton Athletic Women to change their name to Charlton Athletic Ladies for the 2022-23 season.

“The club’s request was discussed by the women’s football pyramid project team, a sub-board of the FA Women’s football board, and following this meeting we can confirm that the application has been rejected.”
