Thomas Sandgaard explains why Charlton Athletic transfer deals are not imminent
Charlton Athletic owner Thomas Sandgaard has explained why he is not expecting any imminent incoming transfer business.
The Addicks have made five signings in the summer window with Fulham defender Steven Sessegnon the latest addition at the start of last week.
Sessegnon and Conor McGrandles, another new recruit, did not feature in Saturday’s 6-1 friendly win at Dartford as both are working their way back from injury.
US-based Dane Sandgaard was at Princes Park to watch the match and told the South London Press he is set to be in the UK for the six weeks as he makes sure Charlton are perfectly equipped for the new League One campaign.
“I’m really pleased with the new signings. The positions that we have made some new signings are ones where we’ve been able to put in players that are able to play out from the back.
“They are really good ball-playing defenders that are going to help us with the new playing style. We’ll be playing out from the back and all the high press you saw in this game here [at Dartford]. I’m very excited about that.

“We were able to get quite a decent amount of signings this early in the window. The next couple of weeks are probably going to be somewhat quiet, just because of the nature of the transfer window. Then it will heat up again.
“It’s hard to find decent players right now at a decent price. That’s just how it is.”
Charlton had six loans after the January transfer window shut but only have one temporary transaction so far, with former England U21 international Sessegnon arriving.
“The loan part of the transfers really kicks in during the last week or two of the transfer window, typically,” said Sandgaard. “We’ll probably not see a whole lot of loans until we get to that point.”
There is also a question mark whether Ben Garner, intent on playing a possession-based style, might want some departures from the squad to help free up room in the budget for other arrivals.
“We probably need some to go out on loan, to get the right kind of experience,” said Sandgaard. “We might open up a few positions for some improvements towards the end. There’s still a long time in the window.”
