Lee Turner steps down as Millwall goalkeeping coach
Millwall have announced that their goalkeeping coach Lee Turner has left his role.
He joined the Lions from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2018.
“Turner has overseen the development of goalkeepers at first-team and U23 level – such as Jordan Archer, Bartosz Bialkowski and George Long – acting as a mentor and friend over the years,” said Millwall in a statement on their official website.
“Lee was a pivotal part of the first-team management set-up under previous and current regimes, and Bialkowski credited Turner as one of the main reasons behind his double Player of the Season win in 2019-20 and 2020-21.”
Turner worked with Ben Amos and Nick Pope while employed by the Addicks.
Speaking to our paper shortly after his appointment at Millwall, he said: “All I want is for them [goalkeepers] to develop and go forwards – improve under my watch.
“When I go into a club you look at what is in-house, you look at their potential and age – is there room for development? How far can they go? Then there is constant dialogue with the manager. Some managers want different types of goalkeepers and you have to work around that. They want different strengths. Can you give the manager the ammunition they want on a match day? He has got to feel safe on a match day, or as safe as he possibly can.”
