Women’s football: Villa keeper Sian Rogers joins Charlton on loan

Charlton Athletic have signed Aston Villa goalkeeper Sian Rogers on loan.

The 27-year-old has made more than 60 appearances for the Women’s Super League club.

“What the fans can expect to see is for me to try and be as consistent as possible,” said Rogers, who kept five shutouts in 13 matches when Villa won the Championship title in the 2019-20 season.

“The Championship is going to challenge me this season and I am really looking forward to it.

“I am looking to take myself out of my comfort zone. I have been at Aston Villa now for five years and when this opportunity came up it was something I had to take with both hands.”

Rogers spent time with Wolves, Arsenal and Birmingham before signing for Villa and featured regularly in the younger England age groups.

Charlton manager Karen Hills said: “Having already won the Golden Glove and been part of a promotion-winning side is extremely impressive to see, and this is the exact sort of winning mentality we are looking to have here at Charlton.”
