Wimbledon boss gives his verdict on whether they got fair deal for Jack Rudoni after youngster completes Huddersfield move
Johnnie Jackson believes that AFC Wimbledon can be content with the terms of their club record sale of Jack Rudoni.
Our website broke the news that Huddersfield Town had agreed terms with the League Two club.
And the Dons have also negotiated a 15 per cent sell-on if Rudoni proves to be a Championship hit.
The move smashes Wimbledon’s previous biggest outgoing, the £300,000 Wrexham paid for striker Ollie Palmer in January.
Rudoni has signed a four-year contract with the Terriers, with the club holding an option to extend by a further 12 months.
“It’s a good deal,” Wimbledon boss Jackson told the South London Press. “In the current market there are not lots of transfer fees flying around.
“If he progresses well then the club will get compensated again.
“It suits all parties. The boy wanted to go and and the club had a valuation of him as well.
“When I took over I was made aware there was a lot of interest and he was looking to pursue that interest. In the meanwhile he has been training with the group and got on with it, he’s been really professional and conducted himself really well.”
Sunderland, Luton, Bristol City and Blackpool also had an interest in Rudoni.
The Dons had rejected bids of around £500,000 from the Black Cats and his eventual employers.
Huddersfield have had success signing from lower down the leagues – most notably Sorba Thomas, who they snapped up from Boreham Wood and who has since won international recognition with Wales.
Even this summer they have added Cheltenham centre-back Will Boyle and Milton Keynes’ midfielder David Kasumu.
“It is a sensible step for Jack,” said Jackson. “He is going to Championship level and he is a very, very good player with a lot of ability and potential.”
Huddersfield’s head of football operations Leigh Bromby said: “We’ve had a longstanding interest in bringing Jack to Huddersfield Town, so we’re very happy to welcome him to the club today. When we got the chance to speak to him, it was quickly clear that he had a real desire to join us too.
“There are not many players who have had the level of impact in a level as high as Sky Bet League One at just 20 as Jack had last season. He’s found a way to affect games and record some very impressive numbers for AFC Wimbledon.
“We still believe there is much more to come from him too, and our coaches are excited to work with him. He’s already got impressive technical skills and a real goal-scoring instinct, but we feel we can really add to his all-round game.
“I believe he’s a player who will really excite our fans.”
