Charlton should have had men sent off during Posh win at The Valley – Peterborough boss Steve Evans
Peterborough United manager Steve Evans felt Charlton should have received a number of red cards during Posh’s 1-0 win at The Valley.
The visitors earned their slender victory after Lewis Page was adjudged to have bundled Ivan Toney over in the penalty area in the final minute of normal time. Jason Cummings converted the spot-kick to stretch Evans’ side’s winning run at the start of the league campaign to four.
Charlton had seen penalty shouts waved away seconds earlier after the ball appeared to strike Toney on the hand inside the visitors’ area.
“If that’s handball then we give the game up,” explained Evans, who was himself yellow carded for arguing with the referee at half-time.
“When it ricochets and your hands are down by your side and it hits it. The referee quite rightly called it properly.
“We would say we were surprised that some players were still on the pitch after some of the challenges on Siriki Dembele. There was a yellow card (given to Albie Morgan) near the touchline that was a straight red. He hit him at waist height.
“Five minutes later you get a different player that hits him waist height through the middle. We need to protect players like that. Challenges like that have got no place in the game.
“My only surprise is not that we scored the penalty is that [Lewis Page] doesn’t get a red card or a yellow.
“They’re’ full of quality,” added Evans, talking about Lee Bowyer’s side.
“They’ve got a young manager making his way in the game who will learn a lot from games like tonight. It was tough and it was feisty. It was two good teams. I was surprised the goal had to come so late. If anything, we’re disappointed we didn’t go two or three goals ahead. The Charlton boys have got a real desire, they’ve got a manager who made a brilliant career of it.”
These are the words of a man who obstructed investigation into contracts at Boston . He and his chairman pleaded guilty.
He should not be in the game. Beong guilty Malpractice used to lead to a life ban.
And this man says our players should be red carded.
Perhaps he would prefer other teams to fail to show and get a walk over every time.
His conduct disgusts me.
I think Pish manager watching another game ! Not one charlton player went down in 90 minutes Posh players were falling like flies ! Referee very inconsistent with his decision making ! CAFC are not a physical side and yet the Posh spent most time on the ground ? A draw would have been a fair result !
A man known for his abuse of officials and corrupt dealings over contracts at Boston whose players were in the refs face or writhing in supposed agony at almost every tackle calls for red cards for Charlton players.
