Dons complete ‘exciting’ Brentford loan signing

AFC Wimbledon have completed the loan signing of Nathan Young-Coombes on a season-long deal from Brentford.

The 19-year-old picked up Brentford B’s Player of the Year last season after scoring 34 goals.

Young-Coombes had spells at Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Rangers as a youngster before joining the Bees last summer.

He made his first team debut for Thomas Frank’s side in the 3-0 win against Southampton in early May.

The versatile forward has been capped by England at U15 and U17 level.

“I’m over the moon to get it across the line before the first game of the season,” Young-Coombes told Wimbledon’s official website.

“It’s rather important to show that I’m ready to play men’s football.

“I spoke to the gaffer a couple of weeks ago, and I kind of wanted to build myself up – so I could present myself as a well-oiled, fit, goalscoring striker to really challenge the starting line-up. It’s been an eventful pre-season, to say the least.

“I just can’t wait to get up and running.”

Dons boss Johnnie Jackson added: “We are delighted to have Nathan on board. He is a player I have had my eye on for a long time. He’s an exciting young player with huge potential who will really complement our squad.

“He brings pace and energy at the top end of the pitch and a real eye for goal. He is highly thought of at Brentford, and we are very grateful for their help in bringing him to the club.”
