Dons under no pressure to sell McCormick – but there is interest in the former Chelsea midfielder

AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson has provided an update on Luke McCormick’s situation after the midfielder missed Saturday’s League Two opening day win against Gillingham.

Our website reported on Friday that McCormick is not injured and is determined to leave AFC Wimbledon this summer.

Reports suggest Bristol Rovers are interested in bringing the 23-year-old back to the Memorial Stadium.

He spent the 2020-21 season on loan with the Gas, scoring six goals and picking up two assists during the campaign. McCormick played 16 times under Rovers boss Joey Barton throughout the loan spell.

McCormick is one of Wimbledon’s highest earners, and his former side Chelsea would be due a percentage of any sale should he leave.

“There is no update on him,” Jackson told the South London Press.

“He is a good player there has been interest in, but he has got two years left on his contract and is highly valued by the club. With that, [it means he] comes at a premium.

“We have got to get him fit before anything, but there is obviously interest in a player such as him.”

The Dons showed their resilience in the transfer market when they sold Jack Rudoni for a club-record transfer fee this summer, rejecting bids and knocking back interest in the 21-year-old until Huddersfield agreed a deal.

“There is no pressure for us to sell any of our players,” added Jackson.

“I’m not under any pressure as a manager to sell any players or to play any players – I’m being given the freedom to manage it how I see fit.

“Football is football, and everyone has a valuation and number – your decision process goes from there.

“At the moment, there is no decision to make.”
