Lewisham murder investigation: Residents given safety message
Police have issued assurances that the wider community is ‘not at risk’ following the arrest of a 53-year-old man in connection with a suspected murder.
Police received a report shortly after 9am on Sunday, that a man had died in a residential property in Loampit Vale, Lewisham.
Officers attended the address alongside London Ambulance Service and a man, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed. Formal identification awaits. A post-mortem will be held in due course.
A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after attending a South London police station.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John said: “I appreciate there is a lot of concern among people following this tragic incident.
“While our enquiries are at a very early stage, I am satisfied that there is no wider risk to the community. A man has been arrested and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“Anyone who feels they might have information that could help us get to the bottom of what has happened here should contact us immediately.”
