Caretaker boss for 163 days – Lee Bowyer is ready for his Charlton role to be made permanent by Roland Duchatelet

He’s been the Charlton caretaker boss for 163 days, but Lee Bowyer now hopes that he can strike a deal with owner Roland Duchatelet for his position to be made permanent.

The former midfielder took over in temporary charge as Karl Robinson left The Valley for Oxford United back in March.

With Duchatelet’s sale of the club still pending and the loan transfer window now closed, Bowyer hopes his future can be confirmed soon.

“Now it’s the end of the month,” he explained.

“The most important thing for me was not myself, it was the club and the players we brought in. Now that that’s done, I will go to the owner and see if we can sort something out regarding myself.

“I’ve got what I needed, what I’ve been planning,” added the Addicks chief, after a successful final week of the loan window that saw Josh Cullen arrive from West Ham and Jamie Ward from Nottingham Forest.

“A lot of those players were our targets. We were lucky to get Ward yesterday. Cullen fell into place for us. I’m grateful to all the clubs that loaned us their players. Krystian Bielik today, scoring (at Southend). It’s been a great window for me. We brought in some very good additions to the squad.”
