Fresh calf injury setback for Charlton Athletic striker

Charlton striker Chuks Aneke has suffered a setback in his recovery from a calf injury.

The attacker has not featured for the Addicks this season after picking up the problem in a behind-closed-doors training ground friendly against Welling United last month.

Aneke was due to step up his return this week with manager Ben Garner revealing on Monday that the former Milton Keynes and Arsenal forward could be in contention for the visit of Cambridge on Saturday.

But asked after Tuesday night’s 5-1 win over Plymouth whether he would be back, Garner replied: “No. Unfortunately with Chuks he trained yesterday and just felt his calf in the warm up. We’ve had that scanned today. I haven’t been notified of the results yet.

“Unfortunately he’s had a bit of a setback there. I’ll know more in the next 24 to 48 hours.”
