Norwich City boss Dean Smith disagrees with Millwall’s Gary Rowett on Josh Sargent goal
Dean Smith disagreed with claims that Millwall should have had a free-kick in the build up to Norwich City’s second goal.
The Canaries beat the Lions 2-0 at Carrow Road, with Gary Rowett frustrated with the officiating decisions throughout the fixture.
Rowett felt that Josh Sargent had committed fouls on Danny McNamara and Scott Malone before the American striker went on to finish past Bartosz Bialkowski in the second half.
Smith said: “The referee was consistent because he didn’t blow up for any of them ones during the rest of the match. Why should he [blow the whistle] for that one?
“I was pleased with the whole performance. In the first-half they [Millwall] made it really difficult, they went man-for-man at times in midfield.
“We had to create overloads, Danell [Sinani] and Kieran Dowell’s movement was excellent in the first half. But we never really created that big chance and you have to give Millwall credit for that. They defended their box really well, made us go around the outside.
“Sometimes we went around the outside a bit too quick, rather than when we got into the final third, linking it up.
“We spoke about that at half-time and the most pleasing thing apart from us working extremely hard for the win, they took on board everything we spoke about at half-time.”
