Patrick Vieira confirms Crystal Palace midfielder could leave before the end of the transfer window
Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has confirmed that Jairo Riedewald could leave the club before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The Dutch midfielder left Ajax and joined the Eagles in 2017 under Frank de Boer for a fee in the region of £8million.
He has featured 77 times for the South Londoners during his time at Selhurst Park, but the 25-year-old, who signed a three-year contract extension in 2021, has found his game time limited under Vieira since his arrival last season.
Riedewald has only played four times under the French manager in the Premier League and has been absent from the past three matchday squads, with Vieira choosing to name two goalkeepers on the bench for the games against Aston Villa and Manchester City.
It was reported over the weekend that Dutch side Feyenoord and Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp are keen on signing the versatile Riedewald, who can play at centre-back, left-back and as a defensive midfielder, before the summer transfer window closes.
“This is a difficult situation for Jairo,” explained Vieira.
“We are in a situation where he is training every day with us, [but] there may be an opportunity for him to leave.
“His head is not in a good place at the moment. We have to wait and see what will happen from now until the end of the window.
“If Jairo is at the football club at the end of the window, he will be part of the squad, and he will be a part of the selection.
“His professionalism has been fantastic, and he has been really good with the young players. He is training every day really well and showing a lot of respect to the coaching staff – he’s been a real professional.”
