Millwall Lionesses win first home fixture of the season – 4-2 victors over Aylesford
Millwall Lionesses got off to a flyer in their first home match of the 2022-23 London and South-East Regional League campaign as they defeated Aylesford 4-2 at St Paul’s.
The Lionesses lost 3-2 against Saltdean last weekend in their season opener but made sure they got all three points in this one.
It looked as though it was heading for a draw before two goals in injury time meant Millwall got exactly what they deserved from a reasonably dominant performance.
The visitors had the first chance of the game when Millwall goalkeeper Serena Hand was forced into a good save at her near post to deny Aylesford an early lead.
But 10 minutes later the Sussex-based side took the lead when Emma Brown got the first of the game with a well-taken header.
That did not seem to faze the South London club as they levelled soon after, a fantastic long range effort from Jade Keogh looped over the Aylesford stopper and into the top corner.
They turned the game on its head just before half-time, Kaydence Kabadaki turned swiftly in the penalty area and hitting a left footed strike into the roof of the net.
Despite dominating possession, the Lionesses were pegged back just after the restart when Brown got her second and the visitors second.
Millwall pushed really hard for a winner but were so nearly undone with two minutes remaining of the 90, Serena Hand once again saving well after a quick transition from Aylesford.
But the Lionesses got their reward for the pressure they applied and in the 93rd minute Grace Seely slotted into the bottom corner.
The victory was sealed deep into added time as Jasmine Auguste rounded off a nice team move to ensure the Lionesses got off to the perfect start at home.
Millwall are in action on Sunday as they host Enfield Town.
