West Ham midfielder had questions before Charlton Athletic loan switch

BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Josh Cullen asked questions about Charlton’s style of play before opting for a loan move to SE7.

The West Ham United midfielder is back as a team-mate of Lewis Page – the pair are both 22 and came through the youth ranks together at the east London outfit.

Former Hammer Page said: “He was always the one we thought if he didn’t make it there then no-one will.

“They always rated him highly, pushed him on and he played first-team. You’re no mug if you play for West Ham.

“We both signed there when we were nine, he signed three weeks before me.

We lived in digs in Romford together for four years and have been on holiday together with our girlfriends.

“He showed in the game at Southend that he has got the legs, good crossing and ability on the ball.

“He proved with his loan at Bradford what he can do at this level.

“I remember speaking to him before he came to Charlton and he asked did we try to play on the floor. I don’t think he enjoyed it at Bolton as much as he thought he would’ve done because they were possibly a little bit more long ball.

“He’ll give us quality in the final third and make things happen.”
