Moped rider in critical condition after Walworth Road collision

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a road traffic collision that left a moped rider with serious injuries.

The collision – involving a car and a moped – happened shortly before 11pm on Sunday in Walworth Road, at the junction with East Street, Walworth.

The rider of the moped, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains there in a critical but stable condition. His next of kin are aware.

A 26-year-old man, thought to be the driver of the car, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving. He has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in late September.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have captured the incident on their dash cam or mobile phone, to contact the witness appeal line on 020 8285 1574. Alternatively, call 101 or tweet @MetCC – please quote CAD3317/28Aug.
