NHS worker and tailor aiming to create free suits for job-seekers

An NHS worker who happens to also have a tailoring business in central London wants to help unemployed and low paid job-seekers to come to him for free suits.

Sonny Grant, who operates out of Grant & Co in The Strand, and lives in Yukon Road, Balham, has set up a crowdfinding page to cover the costs of materials and hopes a little more publicity will help him realise his worthy ambition.

Sonny, 25, told the South London Press: “I got the idea when I was unemployed and down on my luck. I needed a suit for a job interview and went to the charity Suited & Booted and ended up getting the job.

“It’s sometimes difficult to ask for help but we all need help sometimes. I dread to think that someone who is qualified for a job might miss out because of appearances, when we all know it’s really what’s underneath that counts.”

In his Crowdfunding appeal, Sonny writes he wants to: “”Use your generously donated money to produce suits in standard sizes at cost price. That is to say, I won’t charge for my work, only the cost of the materials. I will then give these suits to local charities and/or distribute them myself.

“I’m also looking for others to jump on this with me. If you can’t afford to donate cash but you have good quality, second hand suits/shirts (for men and women) please do get in touch, these can be used as well.”

Anyone making a donation will be given a 20 per cent discount on any suits they want to buy for themselves. Donations of second hand suits and cash can be made at the showroom or by visiting: https://justgiving.com/crowdfunding/suitsforsuccess
