Dons boss Jackson provides update on injured trio ahead of Leyton Orient clash

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson has provided an injury update on Nathan Broome, Jack Currie and Alex Woodyard ahead of Saturday’s home game against League Two table-toppers Leyton Orient.

Goalkeeper Broome, who joined last winter from Stoke City and has acted as deputy to Nik Tzanev since arriving, was absent from Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Stockport County, with Jackson naming academy stopper Harry Griffiths on the bench.

The Dons welcome the east Londoners, who are yet to suffer defeat in the fourth tier this campaign, to Plough Lane this weekend.

“He [Broome] has got a little injury to his foot which he sustained in the EFL Trophy game [a 2-1 win against Aston Villa’s U21s],” Jackson told the South London Press.

“We will be without Broome for a short period. He’s probably out for a couple of weeks – I don’t know exactly the time frame.

“We have got two really good goalkeepers at the club. They [Tzanev and Broome] pushed each other hard during pre-season. I decided to pick Tzanev for the league games, but Broome has done well in the EFL Cup and the EFL Trophy games.

“I’m really impressed with him [Broome]. He’s pushing hard – he wants to play and isn’t happy being a number two. It’s unfortunate that for him to have a little setback, but he is highly thought of and has a big future at the club.”

Left-back Jack Currie was also missing from the matchday squad last weekend after coming off at half-time last time out during the 1-0 defeat at home to Barrow.

“Jack injured his shoulder, and it came out of that game really sore,” explained Jackson.

“He didn’t recover in time to be involved at Stockport, but hopefully, we will have him available [for the game on Saturday].

“He needs to train at the back end of the week to have any chance. We will monitor him today [Wednesday] to see if he will be involved in training tomorrow. We will make the call on that quite late.”

Alex Woodyard, who signed a new two-year contract extension over the summer with the Dons, has yet to feature this season after picking up a calf injury. The 29-year-old midfielder played 36 times in League One last season for the club.

“Woody is getting there,” said Jackson.

“He’s outside progressing and running. It [his recovery] has been slower than we would have liked, but he is progressing.

“Hopefully, he will be back training with the group in a couple of weeks, and then we will have to build him up steadily before he gets back involved with first team action.

“He’s going in the right direction.”

Paris Maghoma, 21, is also available for selection again this weekend after serving his one-match ban following his sending off during the 1-0 defeat at home to Barrow.
