‘We took a step back’ – Charlton goalscorer disappointed they couldn’t build on dream start at Bolton

Scott Fraser felt Charlton Athletic did not make the most of their dream start at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

The Scottish midfielder put the Addicks ahead with a close-range finish, his third goal of the season, in the fourth minute.

But Conor Bradley equalised before the 10-minute mark.

Kieran Lee and George Johnston were also on target as Charlton suffered a second League One loss of the campaign.

Asked about an ideal opening to the Bolton match, Fraser told the South London Press: “After that it felt at the time, and also watching it back, like we took a step back. Whereas that hasn’t been us this season – we’ve scored and it’s about can we go and score again, and again? For whatever reason on Saturday we didn’t quite do that.

“When they have got a good crowd behind them they are always going to make it tougher.”

Bradley’s leveller looked to be a handball.

“I’m not on Twitter myself but a couple of the boys had seen the goal on there and you can see, quite clearly, that he pretty much swiped it into the goal,” said Fraser.

“I didn’t see it at the time but a couple of defenders had mentioned it even after the goal and then again at half-time.

“That’s something the officials should be seeing, particularly the linesman. No-one is really in his way, you’re looking at him to be strong there. But it is what it is, we need to move on pretty fast.”
