Lee Bowyer flattered after managing Charlton to record-breaking 8-0 win at Stevenage

Lee Bowyer said he was “flattered” to manage Charlton to their biggest ever winning margin.
The Addicks ran out 8-0 victors in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy clash at Stevenage – breaking a record that had stood since an 8-1 victory over Middlesbrough in 1953.
Darren Pratley got the scoring going just before the half-hour mark before youngster Toby Stevenson added the first of what would be a debut hat-trick for the defender. Nicky Ajose made it three before half-time, before Igor Vetokele added his first of the evening just after the break.
Stevenson scored from range and then from the spot to complete his personal achievement, with Vetokele again and then George Lapslie finding the net to complete the rout.
“It’s flattering,” said Bowyer.
“It’s a big margin. You’ve got some good, experienced pros out there and some enthusiastic kids. I thought they were outstanding from the first to the last minute. It was a pleasure to watch. They were a credit to themselves. It was great to watch. I’m sure everyone to do with the club enjoyed it. They did everything right.
“It’s nice but the most important thing for me is to see them play the way they did. They were outstanding. And for the kids as well, the young lads who came in, it was very good.”
