Middlesbrough make managerial change – with Millwall the first away test since Chris Wilder’s exit

Middlesbrough have parted company with manager Chris Wilder with the struggling Teessiders heading to Millwall on Saturday.

The Lions are in action on Wednesday night at Rotherham United. The Millers are set to confirm former Charlton Athletic centre-back Matt Taylor as Paul Warne’s successor after being permission to talk to the Exeter City boss.

And now there has been another managerial twist with Boro making a change following a 1-0 defeat to Coventry on Saturday.

“Leo Percovich will take over first-team affairs in the interim basis, assisted by Craig Liddle, Mark Tinkler and Lee Cattermole,” said Boro in a statement.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Chris and his staff for all their hard work over the past 11 months.”

Middlesbrough are 22nd in the Championship standings and they are at home to Birmingham City on Wednesday night.

Wilder was handed the job in November 2021, ending a seven-month break following his dismissal by Sheffield United.
