Woolwich stabbing: Man is charged with murder as victim is named

A man has been charged with the murder of a 23-year-old man in Woolwich.

An investigation was launched on Wednesday of last week after Damilola Oloruntola – who has now been named – suffered fatal stab injuries in Brookhill Road.

On Sunday, Solomon Bamidele, 25, of Sutton-at-Hone, Kent, was arrested at an address in Harlow, Essex and was subsequently charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested at the same address on suspicion of assisting an offender. She was taken in to custody and subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries.

At around 5.40pm on the day of the stabbing, Mr Oloruntola was dropped off by car at a South London hospital with serious injuries.

Medical staff responded immediately but despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at around 7.10pm.

Bamidele appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Incident Room on 0208 721 4961 or phone 101 giving reference 5568/29SEP.

Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
