Ice-hockey: Streatham can extend winning run to four games as they face home game against Invicta Dynamos

Streatham are looking to extend their winning streak to four games as they face old rivals Invicta Dynamos in South London this weekend.

The RedHawks put aside injuries to key defenseman Rupe Quiney and Jordan Gregory to post an impressive four point weekend last time out, with a 7-1 road win in Milton Keynes and a hard-fought 5-4 win over the Raiders in a derby on Sunday.

The noisy crowd at the Streatham Arena had seen their team trail 4-0 against a Raiders side tipped for big things this season. Five unanswered goals in just over 20 minutes had the home fans on their feet as a short-handed effort from Andreas Siagris sealed a memorable victory in a feisty encounter.

Fellow Canadian Alex Roberts moved up to second in the league scoring charts with a brace to add to lone goals from Adam Carr and new signing Tom Soar.

The RedHawks now face an Invicta Dynamos side rooted to the foot of the table but not without considerable talent in their roster, plus the return of former Streatham heroes Joe Allen and Callum Best.

“The last two home games have been perfect to watch as a spectator,” said head coach Jeremy Cornish. “The team showed great character in both games against strong opposition and we hope that the crowds will respond to that.”

The game against the Raiders was also memorable thanks to a choral performance that saw the national anthem sung by a choir as part of the Streatham Festival. The anthem will return to audio this week and Cornish hopes the winning streak continues.

“We want to put a little run together of results and with no easy games in this league, its what you need to do to keep up at the top end of the table. Every team can take points off each other so we need to be ready and in fairness to the squad, they’ve dug in and worked hard to get the wins so far.”
