‘Not too difficult’ – Lions not thrown by Matt Taylor’s appointment as Rotherham boss just day before Championship clash

Gary Rowett has insisted that Matt Taylor’s appointment did not make much of a difference to how Millwall approached Wednesday night’s match against Rotherham.

The Lions claimed a point on the road after Zian Flemming’s stunning strike late in the first-half cancelled out Daniel Barlaser’s early penalty.

Former Charlton defender and Exeter boss Taylor had emerged as the frontrunner for the Rotherham vacancy in the build-up to the match, but he was only confirmed as the Millers’ new boss on Tuesday afternoon.

But when he was asked whether or not that had made preparations more difficult, Rowett responded: “Not too difficult.

“We felt having come in only yesterday afternoon, the likelihood is you’re going to allow the team to prepare how they have done [previously], so I didn’t imagine having a new manager would make too much difference.

“Actually, often in those games the home teams play with quite an exuberance to try and impress the new manager, and we quelled that really well.

“For about 80, 90 per cent of it, it was really good. It’s just that last 10 per cent that wins you these away games and that will come, I’m sure.”
