‘The table doesn’t lie’ – Patrick Vieira stresses the importance of Crystal Palace turning performances into wins

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has stressed that his side needs to start turning their performances into all three points.

During Vieira’s 45-game Premier League reign as Palace boss, his side have conceded 10 times in the final five minutes.

The Eagles have dropped 10 points this season in the Premier League from winning positions, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Brentford and Chelsea all snatching points away from Vieira’s side when they have had the lead.

Palace find themselves in 17th – just above the relegation zone – on goal difference after their first seven games.

Their only win came in the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on August 20. Vieira’s side have also only kept one clean sheet all season in the top flight.

“It doesn’t lie,” said Vieira on Palace’s current position in the table.

“We are where we are because we didn’t win enough matches – that is looking at the points. But if you look at what we are producing football-wise, it gives us hope we will win those games.

“We have to be more clinical – to focus more on those details to win matches. We have more chance of winning games by playing the way we do than anything else.

“Of course, we look at the table and we want to be higher, and we are not where we want to be – we need to win matches.

“We are conscious it’s important to win matches. We are conscious of the way we play and the way we compete – we need to turn those performances into a win.

“I don’t have doubt that we will do that. The way we approach games, and the way I’ve seen the players working every day, gives me hope we will turn things around.”

The South Londoners take on Leeds at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
