QPR boss expects loan departures over the winter window

QPR boss Mick Beale has confirmed that up to four players are set to leave on loan in the winter transfer window.

The west Londoners have the chance to move back up to the top of the Championship table tomorrow if they pick up all three points against Birmingham City.

When asked whether there had been discussions about letting players go in January due to the number of bodies within his squad, Beale said: “A lot of discussions are already happening behind the scenes with individual players.

“We have a heavy squad in terms of numbers when everyone is available, so it’s important that people who haven’t played a part in the first half part of the season, and they can’t see a way into the squad and team, then for those players it might be important for them to play.

“But again, we don’t know what is around the corner in terms of injuries.

“At times this year, we have needed everyone that is in to be here, because you don’t know when the injuries are going to come.

“With injuries and loss of form, it’s important we keep a strong squad in-house.

“But I do feel that three or four [players] could go out on loan in January.”

Beale also confirmed that Steven Gerrard’s sacking at Aston Villa should not disrupt the season-long loan agreement with midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.

“I don’t see why it would change anything,” he added.

“Aston Villa loaned the player to QPR, and the decision would have been made with Steven’s agreement, but it would have been a club decision.

“I think they will be delighted with his progress.”
