If you are eligible, make sure you get your jabs

If you live with diabetes, your risk of having heart disease is increased.

I received both my flu and Covid jabs at St George’s Hospital in London last week – it couldn’t have been easier.

It’s reassuring to have that protection this winter – I cannot thank the wonderful NHS staff and volunteers enough for their outstanding work getting jabs in arms.

The UK has one of the most comprehensive flu vaccination programmes in the world, with more than 138 million Covid vaccines delivered to date, including 13 million autumn boosters.

Ahead of what is going to be a difficult winter, we’ve been doing all we can to ensure the health service is prepared for the challenges we face and delivers the best possible care to patients.

One of the key ways we have been preparing is through our world-leading vaccination programme – which not only protects individuals, families and communities from respiratory viruses like Covid and flu – it also ensures the NHS is protected.

Our vaccines provide much-needed protection and top up our immunity, which we know wanes over time. Uptake in London is below the national average, which is why I’m urging people across the capital who are eligible to come forward as soon as they can to protect themselves and their loved ones.

The capital’s diverse population is something to be proud of – and I encourage people from black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds who tend to have lower rates of vaccine uptake to come forward.

If you’re over 50, are pregnant or have underlying health conditions you can book your Covid vaccine online, call 119 or turn up at a walk-in centre and be jabbed in minutes.”
