Five Chelsea players could feature in England-Senegal World Cup clash

There will be an almighty clash of Chelsea players on Sunday as England take on Senegal in the knockout stage of the World Cup.

Potentially five players from the SW6 club could be on the pitch.

Senegal, the African Cup of Nations champions, will have Edouard Mendy in goal and skipper Kalidou Koulibaly. They could be up against Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, below, and Conor Gallagher.

Senegal finished second in their group behind Netherlands thanks to a screamer of a winner from defender Koulibaly, whose side beat Ecuador 2-1 in their final group match on Tuesday.

England had the easier task, finishing top of their group after a regulation 3-0 over Wales.

Christian Pulisic is a major doubt for the USA’s match against the Dutch on Saturday.

The winger scored the winner for the Americans as they beat Iran 1-0. But he ended up in hospital suffering from dizziness and a pelvic injury.

Pulisic is convinced he will play. He said: “I’ll be ready on Saturday, don’t worry.”

Chelsea still have Cesar Azpilicueta with Spain, Kai Havertz with Germany, Mateo Kovacic with Serbia, Thiago Silva with Brazil, on-loan Romelu Lukaku with Belgium and Denis Zakaria with Switzerland all vying for further World Cup glory in Qatar

Chelsea have been drawn to play Manchester City in this season’s FA Cup third round in early January.

Chelsea Women face Leicester City, bottom of the WSL, at the King Power Stadium tomorrow.

Apart from long-term injured Pernille Harder, head coach Emma Hayes has a fully-fit squad to choose from.
