A date that broke the ice – and inspired a songwriter’s Christmas ditty

It may not quite be to anybody’s taste, but many will relate to the sentiment behind it on Christmas Day.

The singer-songwriter D’Artagnan has released a heartfelt festive hit celebrating the fact this time of year recalls the first date with fiancée Josie at Hampton Court Palace’s winter ice rink – and the following year when he proposed to her at the very same venue on the anniversary of that first get-together.

“I believe in Santa Claus. Only he could make me yours,” is one of the lines. Which tells you all you need to know.

Keen to share his romantic story, D’Artagnan, who has used Hampton Court and central locations for the promo video on YouTube, said: “A few years ago, I met my fiancee, Josie, at Christmas time. We had a beautiful year and I decided she was the one for me.

“So, the following Christmas we went skating again to mark our first anniversary and I surprised her by proposing on the ice with an antique diamond ring. She accepted. Yay! Spectacular!

“Unexpectedly, the ice photographer caught my proposal on film and as I am a singer/songwriter, the natural thing to do was to write a Christmas song to capture the romantic moment that we had shared.

“Merry Christmas Darling, my new Christmas single is the result.”

Grammy nominated producer Mike Moran – who has worked for Queen, Ozzy Osborne, George Harrison, Elaine Paige and Russell Watson has produced the song.
