Andreas Voglsammer off the mark in English football to ease pressure of waiting for that first goal
Gary Rowett has admitted that Andreas Voglsammer’s tremendous work ethic has helped the German keep his place in the team after the Millwall forward finally broke his duck in the 2-0 win over Watford.
Voglsammer has been an instant hit with fans but had failed to find the net in 18 appearances prior to Boxing Day’s trip to Vicarage Road.
After coming close to opening his Millwall account on numerous occasions, Voglsammer finally found the back of the net to nudge the Lions into the lead against Watford in the 22nd minute before he was denied a second by the crossbar later on in the match.
And although Rowett admits that the pressure was starting to build on Voglsammer after his long run without a goal, the former Union Berlin man’s work ethic has helped keep him ahead of other candidates who have been vying for Voglsammer’s spot in the Lions front three.
Rowett explained: “I think there was a little pressure starting to build, maybe to change that position if you’re not scoring.
“I felt Tyler would give us something different, like we saw Benno do in the home game. It’s another one where good minutes for him will help him. There’s a lot of positives today.”
