Watford boss gives verdict on Kamara red card in today’s defeat to Millwall

Slaven Bilic reckoned that referee Josh Smith’s decision to show Hassane Kamara a red card in Millwall’s 2-0 victory against Watford was “fair”.

Kamara was shown a red card after aggressively shoving Danny McNamara to the ground following a Hornets attack.

Bilic said: “The sending off was fair, it was reckless. He was provoked – but you get provoked all the time.

“I talked to him at half-time, it’s unacceptable. Those things happen but if you do those things then your chances to win a game or get anything from a game they drop like crazy.”

The former West Brom manager was disappointed after his team prepared well for the game.

He added: “I’m very disappointed. It’s hard to explain this performance from us, it’s hard to believe.

“Everything went good. It was all good, positive and competitive. We prepared for a few days on Millwall’s strengths – long balls and second balls.

“We were poor from the start, they were winning all the second balls. We didn’t have the ball because of that.

“Then our passing was poor, everything was poor. Then when you lose Joao Pedro, then [concede] a goal, before that the situation with the penalty [appeal].

“We thought it was a penalty on [Ken] Sema and that changes the game, then the red card and after that in the second half we tried to be solid, stay in the game and to use a couple of chances that we would eventually have.”
