Keeper set to see specialist as Addicks boss outlines state of play with his shotstoppers
Jojo Wollacott is still facing a couple more weeks out of first-team contention at Charlton Athletic.
The Ghana international suffered a broken finger in November which ended his hopes of representing his country at the Qatar World Cup.
Wollacott, 26, had been number one under Ben Garner but now needs to impress new Addicks manager Dean Holden.
Ashley Maynard-Brewer has impressed in goal in recent matches.
Charlton are set to listen to offers for Craig MacGillivray in the January transfer window. The former Portsmouth stopper was also available at the end of the previous window but no move materialised.
Asked about Wollacott’s recovery, Holden said: “I don’t want to put an absolute timescale on it.
“The surgeon is going to have another look at it again next week. Then, in the weeks after that, we’ll be looking to have him back and properly involved.
“He’s going to be a couple of weeks away just yet.”
Maynard-Brewer was excellent in the EFL Cup quarter-final win over Brighton and also pulled off a couple of big saves in the 1-1 Boxing Day draw against Peterborough United.
“It’s the same with any position – everybody is pushing each other in training every day,” said Holden. “When they get a period of time on the pitch, they have to take it – they know that.
“Ash, quite rightly, is the number one at the moment. He has performed really well – an excellent double save in the first half on Saturday.
“He has got the makings of a top keeper. He is brave, he is a good size and agile, but his bravery, probably more than anything, is what stands him out.
“At the moment, he has got the shirt. There is Craig MacGillivray as well, there is Nathan Harness and Jojo.
“The four of them are fighting it out. You want healthy competition.”
