Patrick Vieira calls for more ‘consistent emotions’ after Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win at Bournemouth

Patrick Vieira has called for more consistent emotions at Crystal Palace after their 2-0 win over Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve.

Jordan Ayew gave the Eagles the lead in the 19th minute after he was allowed to drift in between the Bournemouth defence from a Michael Olise corner and plant a header past Mark Travers.

Palace doubled their lead and wrapped up all three points in the 36th minute when another Olise corner found Eberechi Eze on the edge of the box – the former QPR man hitting a first-time shot past Travers.

The Eagles lost 3-0 to Fulham on Boxing Day and were reduced to nine men during the 90 minutes – Tyrick Mitchell and James Tomkins both getting sent off.

When asked if it was a relief to bounce back at The Vitality stadium following the home defeat to Marco Silva’s Fulham, Vieira said: “It was a relief for the people who doubted us – on the team or on the players.

“I know my players really well. I know how well they can play, and today we had a good performance.

“It’s important for me and for everybody at the football club to trust the players that we have and understand who we are as a football club.

“What is really difficult in the game, especially when you have a young group of players, and players who are new a little bit in the Premier League, there will be some ups and downs.

“I didn’t believe that we had the worst team after the game against Fulham, and we still don’t believe we have the best team after the game today.

“I invite everybody to be a little bit more consistent with their emotions and to try and control their emotions.”

Olise, 21, recorded two assists during the match.

“He’s a young player – he keeps developing himself,” said Vieira of the former Reading midfielder.

“Sometimes, he will make some mistakes tactically and miss something because he still needs to grow as a player.

“With what he is doing in training, I don’t have any doubts about putting him in the starting 11.

“Today, he was really disciplined and he defended quite well. The faith and the trust that we’re going to put on him will help him grow as a player – that’s good for us.”
