Stevenage to sign Charlton Athletic midfielder
Jake Forster-Caskey’s Charlton career is over – with the midfielder agreeing to join Stevenage.
The 28-year-old former Brighton and MK player was close to leaving in the summer transfer window but saw a loan switch to AFC Wimbledon fail to be completed in time on deadline day.
But now Forster-Caskey, whose Valley terms expire at the end of June, will make a move to League Two.
Stevenage are in the automatic promotion spots and Forster-Caskey featured against them in the EFL Cup tie between the two clubs earlier in the campaign.
The 28-year-old has made 13 appearances for the South Londoners in the current campaign but many of those have been as a second-half substitute. The latest of those was coming on in the 75th minute against Brighton in their EFL Cup last-16 contest.
Stevenage have Addicks midfielder Alex Gilbey on loan. He has scored twice in 22 matches for Steve Evans’ side. Charlton do have a recall option in his deal but there has been no indication yet that new manager Dean Holden is keen to exercise it.
Forster-Caskey has played 128 matches for Charlton, the second most in the current squad behind Albie Morgan (130).
He won the club’s Player of the Year award in 2020-21 but also suffered his second ACL knee injury in the penultimate fixture of the season.
