Crystal Palace’s Steve Parish pays tribute to West Ham co-chairman Gold

Steve Parish has paid his respects to West Ham co-owner David Gold after the West Ham co-chairman died at the age of 86 following a short illness.

West Ham announced on Wednesday afternoon that Gold had passed away peacefully with his fiancee and daughters by his side.

Gold was a lifelong West Ham fan and took over the east London-based club in 2010 with David Sullivan.

He had also been the owner of Birmingham City but sold his shares in the club in 2009.

Palace chairman Parish took to Twitter shortly after the news of Gold’s passing had been announced.

“Terrible news,” tweeted Parish. “David was an absolute gentleman, always had kind and supportive words for me when things were tough.

“He knew how to win with grace and lose with dignity. He loved football and he loved his club. I will miss him. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
