Chris Kongo can win three belts when he faces Essuman in Manchester on January 21

Bermondsey’s Chris Kongo has the chance to pick up three belts if he defeats Ekow Essuman at Manchester Arena on January 21.

The 30-year-old South Londoner holds the WBC Silver International welterweight title after a unanimous points win over Sebastian Formella last time out in June.

And Nottingham’s Essuman (18-0) puts his British, Commonwealth and IBF European belts on the line.

Kongo is 14-1 in the professional ranks and has won twice, both on points, since being outpointed by Michael McKinson in March 2021.

Essuman has said he will break the heart of his opponent. But Kongo told iFL TV: “Luther Clay tried to do the same and walked onto a shot.

“We all know he [Essuman] can box as well, he’s not always on the front foot. I’ve never been broken – ever. We saw something in his last fight that we’re due to capitalise on but lips are sealed – we’re ready for January 21.

“It’s a great fight. He’s got his titles and I thought ‘yeah, why not? Let’s go for it’. I wanted big fights [in 2023] and Sky produced. I’m excited. I’m preparing for a tactical fight or an all our war. I hold my power late too. It’s for me to come and show you guys what I’m going to do.”
