‘Inconsistent and mediocrity’ – Critchley calls out QPR squad after FA Cup shock exit
Neil Critchley hammered his QPR players after their shock defeat to League One side Fleetwood Town in the third round of the FA Cup.
Midfielder Sam Field gave the Championship side the lead in the 37th minute, meeting a Lyndon Dykes header down from a Illias Chair free-kick and bundling the ball past Jakub Stolarczyk.
The hosts levelled three minutes later when Aristote Nsiala was left unmarked at the back post and guided Danny Andrew’s corner beyond Seny Dieng.
Fleetwood knocked QPR out and booked their place in the next round in the 67th minute when Promise Omochere reacted quickest inside the area to turn home another Andrew’s corner.
“Where do I start with that? That just wasn’t good enough,” said the QPR boss.
“So many aspects of our play were not good enough.
“The biggest disappointment is the mentality of the group. We’re inconsistent with our mentality and that’s why we get that type of performance.
“If we are going to accept mediocrity, then that’s what we are going to get on a regular basis, so that has to change.
“It was evident before I came here and today confirmed what I suspected. We take a step forward, then we take a step back, and that is this group at this moment in time.
“We have to do something about it, and we have to do something quickly.”
