Crystal Palace loan round-up – Rak-Sakyi and Gordon both score as Phillips makes League One debut
Crystal Palace loanee John-Kymani Gordon scored on his Carlise United debut on Saturday in their 2-0 win over Newport County in League Two.
The 19-year-old, who only completed his move to the Cumbrians 24 hours prior to the encounter, started the match and scored their second in the 57th minute.
Gordon played 66 minutes at Brunton Park before he was substituted. Carlisle moved up to fourth in the League Two table and are four points off the automatic promotion spots.
Speaking to The Cumberland News, Simpson said of Gordon: “[For the goal] you could just feel his eyes lighting up as soon as he got that ball. He knows in that situation that he’s a handful.
“That’s difficult to defend against. No defender, particularly outside centre-backs, likes somebody coming one-v-one and not knowing whether he can come inside or if he’s going to go outside.
“It’s a great ability to have, and thankfully he got a great strike and finish as well.
“I was a little bit concerned that I was asking a bit too much of him by putting him in today, but to get that goal was brilliant.
“It’ll make him feel on top of the world, and hopefully, it’s the first of many from him.”
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi scored his seventh goal of the season in Charlton Athletic’s 2-0 win over Barnsley in League One.
The Palace winger, who signed a new five-year deal with the Eagles before joining the Addicks at the start of the season, has cemented himself as a starter in Dean Holden’s side and played the full 90 minutes at The Valley on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Remi Matthews made his 20th appearance of the season for St. Johnstone in their 4-2 defeat to Livingstone in the Scottish Premiership.
Killian Phillips played the full 90 minutes – his full league debut after making his club debut against Sunderland in the FA Cup last week – in Shrewsbury’s 4-0 win over Burton Albion in League One.
Fellow Palace loanee Rob Street came on for the final 13 minutes of the win at the Pirelli Stadium.
