Two years on, police appeal again for information in the murder of Mohamed Kakay in Camberwell

A £20,000 reward is being offered as police continue to appeal for information following the murder of Mohamed Kakay in Camberwell two years ago.
Officers returned to the scene of the murder, Camberwell Church Street, between 8am and 10am on Saturday – two years after Mohamed’s death.
They handed out appeal leaflets and talked to local people as they made a fresh appeal for witnesses and information about the murder.
Mohamed, pictured, was stabbed inside the gardens at the back of St Giles’ Church before staggering to the front of the church and collapsing in Camberwell Church Street, SE5 at around 9am on November 19, 2016.
He died from his injury in hospital later that afternoon – days before his 34th birthday. It is believed he was attacked by two suspects. To date, six people have been arrested as part of the investigation – all were later released with no further action.
The investigation into his murder is being led by the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command.
A £20,000 reward for information is now being offered to anyone who provides information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Mohamed’s murder.
Detective Inspector Tom Dahri, leading the investigation, said: “Two years have passed but we remain as committed as ever to finding out who committed this murder.
We believe that Mohamed had spent the night at a flat in Wilson Road. In the morning he walked down Wilson Road with two suspects before he entered the gardens at the rear of St Giles Church where he was stabbed seconds later.
“The two suspects then made off through the gardens, down a side alleyway leading to the front of St Giles Church and then cut through the front of the church as the congregation were exiting before they turned back up Wilson Road.
“We believe that the key to solving this case lies in the local community. We hope that by offering a substantial reward for information, anyone who knows something about what happened to Mohamed and those involved in his murder who previously thought twice about coming forward will do the right thing now and call police.”
