Wings face Dulwich Hamlet tomorrow in FA Trophy replay

Welling United will rematch at Dulwich Hamlet’s temporary home of the KNK Stadium on Wednesday night following a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

It was an FA Trophy tie high on endeavour but short on quality. Although the hosts controlled the majority of the game, Dulwich held firm at the back and goalkeeper Preston Edwards was hardly tested.

Montel Agyemang was commanding in midfield for Welling and most of their chances came through him. He also created problems with his dead ball deliveries. An early one was met by Brendan Kiernan at the far post but he was unable to keep it down.

His next one found Danny Mills who headed back across goal but Matt Paterson’s hooked volley flew just wide with Edwards an onlooker.

Kiernan got round Michael Chambers but curled his shot well off target then Thierry Audel headed wide from a Nassim L’Ghoul corner.

Eventually Welling’s superiority told, although in a fortuitous manner. Michael Chambers went to clear a L’Ghoul low cross but Matthew Paterson’s block flew back past Edwards and into the net.

The lead did not last long as Dulwich levelled in controversial circumstances. Nyren Clunis was tackled by Caden Genovesi and looked as surprised as anyone when the referee conferred with his assistant and awarded a penalty. Ashley Carew stepped up and slammed it into the bottom right hand corner.

Carew’s free-kick came out off the angle of bar and post.

The second half started with Agyemang’s deliveries again causing problems. Danny Mills side-footed over then Agyemang went for goal himself but curled his effort over.

Edwards made his only real save from Kiernan before the visitors missed a great chance to snatch it at the end. Sanchez Ming hit low across the penalty area and Anthony Cook slid in at the far post but could not divert it goalwards.
