‘Right to the wire’ – Charlton Athletic boss expecting transfer window drama on deadline day
Charlton Athletic manager Dean Holden is expecting the club’s transfer window trading to go right up until Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
The Addicks have made three signings in the January transfer window, all of them relatively short term.
Striker Macauley Bonne, a free agent after his contract was cancelled by QPR this month, has a deal until the end of the campaign.
Todd Kane and Matt Penney have arrived on loan from Coventry City and Ipswich Town.
Goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray and midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey have signed for Burton Albion and Stevenage. Conor McGrandles moved to Cambridge United on loan earlier in the week.

Charlie Kirk and Diallang Jaiyesimi could be movers before the trading cut-off next week.
Asked about the chance of doing more business, Holden said: “We hope so. We’re in the market. There is a lot of work going on, we’re still three days away from 11pm on Tuesday.
“I’m sure it will go right to the wire, it always does at every club.
“We’re ready for it. We need to trim the squad hopefully. Ideally we’d love to add as well.”
Jayden Stockley did not make the matchday 18 for today’s 2-1 reverse to Bolton Wanderers.
Holden said: “He had a tight calf. He pulled out of training midway through on Thursday. He missed training yesterday and has been in for treatmenr today.
“It’s nothing too serious at all. We can’t risk that.”

I have warmed to Dean Holden and he certainly says as it is. However, going to the wire on transfer business is nothing new for Charlton. Three signings already in, but one injured for a while, so only really two and yet again, no money spent, just a free until end of season and a loan until end of season. Neither of these players – Bonne and Penny, look anything special at present. It was quite clear from the Bolton game that there is a great deal of work and transfers in and out, to be anything as good as Bolton or Barnsley. At least Holden appears to have installed a much better team spirit, I just hope it lasts and at least we will not have to worry about relegation and concentrate on building for next season. All quiet on the ownership front !!
