Neil Critchley after Hull defeat: ‘Things need to change at QPR’
QPR boss Neil Critchley says his players must accept that their performance in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat away to Hull City was not up to scratch.
He has also vowed to make changes after the heavy defeat.
Aaron Connolly opened the scoring for Liam Rosenior’s side in the 10th minute at the MKM Stadium.
QPR centre-back Rob Dickie then extended Hull’s lead in the 64th minute when he turned Jean Michaël Seri’s cross past Seny Dieng.
Connolly added his second and Hull’s third two minutes later to secure all three points.
“We were miles off it,” said the former Aston Villa assistant Critchley.
“Our start to the game was passive, at best. In and out of possession, we didn’t play or think forward enough.
“Out of possession, we were not where near aggressive enough.
“In duals, they deservedly scored and went 1-0 up. We started to grow into the game a little bit, but still not enough.
“The only positive at half time was that it was 1-0. “When the game is nice, we can play.
“It has nothing to do with tactics or ability. In this division, you need to do certain things in every game. Today we were miles away.
“When the going gets tough, we need to do the ugly side of the game better than what we do.
“We need to change and change quickly. If you look at the recent history of this football club and what has happened in previous seasons, from being at the club for six or seven weeks, it is clear that things need to change.
“What’s the saying: ‘Either people change, or you change the people.’
“While I am here, we need to work tirelessly at changing the mentality of what we do.
“You can do that, but I have said to the players: ‘You either jump on board and accept responsibility for the fact that it wasn’t good enough today and you need to improve quickly, or that type of performance happens too often.’
“It’s my responsibility – I am the manager, and I need to change what is too evident at this moment in time.
“I hope the players are up for that challenge.”
