First production of The Walworth Farce playing at the Southwark Playhouse Elephant and Castle

The first major production at Southwark Playhouse’s new Elephant and Castle theatre venue is Enda Walsh’s The Walworth Farce.

London’s newest theatre venue, Southwark Playhouse Elephant, is a purpose-built 300-seat theatre at Elephant and Castle.

The first major production to be presented at the theatre will be The Walworth Farce, a major revival of Enda Walsh’s hilarious and shocking farce, set, aptly, on the Walworth Road – no more than a stone’s throw from the site of the new theatre.

The theatre would like to welcome South London Press readers to their new theatre this Spring and are offering an exclusive discount for The Walworth Farce.

The Walworth Farce is a remarkable play about what can happen when we become stuck in the stories we tell about our lives.

Holed up in a flat on the Walworth Road, Sean and Blake diligently recite their father Dinny’s lines as they daily re-enact the moment, they fled their home in Ireland.

But today’s performance is going to be different: Dinny’s got a rage on because there’s a sausage and Ryvita in place of the chicken dinner, Sean’s head’s not been in it since he came back from Tesco, and the three men are about to receive an unexpected visitor.

Set to play patriarch Dinny is actor and comedian Dan Skinner, best known for his character ‘Angelos Epithemiou’ (Shooting Stars and various TV comedy shows).

Most recently, he has featured as a guest on The Crown as well as having a recurring role in Sex Education.

Also joining the cast will be Rachelle Diedericks (The Crucible, National Theatre), Killian Coyle (Call the Midwife, BBC) and Emmet Byrne (The Long Christmas Dinner, Abbey Theatre).

The theatre recently opened on 19 January with its community productions of The Wind in the Willows and Bermondsey Revolution.

The opening season continues with The Walworth Farce (17 Feb – 18 Mar) and Berlusconi A New Musical (25 Mar – 29 Apr).
