‘That won’t be a lot of good!’ – Millwall boss on ex-Lion Ballard’s ‘inside info’ claim ahead of Sunderland match

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has responded to Dan Ballard’s claim he will try and supply “inside information” on the home team for today’s Championship clash at The Den.

Ballard spent last season on loan with the Lions from Arsenal.

Sunderland signed the Northern Ireland international on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window.

“Hopefully I will be able to help the team out and give them a bit more inside information about how they play and the types of players they have,” Ballard told the Black Cats’ website. “It can only be a benefit.”

Rowett told the South London Press: “We were playing a completely different formation last season, so that won’t be a lot of good.

“Dan’s a good lad. He did really, really well for us and he was a popular player.

“Of course his loyalties lie with Sunderland and of course he is going to try and help them all he can. If he’s doing scouting reports now then that’s all good! He’s an intelligent lad, a bright lad, and I’m sure he’ll give certain pointers.

“But I’m also sure when you are asked that question directly, you’re probably going to have to give an answer.

“We’ll welcome him back but hope he doesn’t go away with any points. We’re also aware he is a good player and his Sunderland team is a good team, like we saw at the Stadium of Light – we’re going to have to play really well.”
