Charlton boss Dean Holden asked whether he enjoyed January transfer window

Charlton manager Dean Holden has explained exactly why he is pleased that the transfer window is closed.

The January transfer window closed on Tuesday night with plenty of late activity for the League One club.

Charlton brought in Gavin Kilkenny on loan from Bournemouth as well as adding experienced centre-back Michael Hector.

There were also exits too with Eoghan O’Connell making a permanent move to Wrexham as well as temporary loans for the likes of Charlie Kirk, Sam Lavelle and Diallang Jaiyesimi.

Asked by the South London Press if he enjoyed the transfer window, Holden said: “I’m glad it’s over, because it allows us to now focus on the squad we’ve now got. There are no rumours or question marks over who may or may not come in and who may not leave. We’ve now got a squad that we’re really comfortable with from now until the end of the season.

“You know exactly the reason behind players leaving (Holden wanting to trim the squad size). It’s always emotional for football supporters. I’m one myself, as well. It is an emotional time because you want some big signings in and players that leave, some of them are fans’ favourites.

“There are obviously relationships between players, some of their mates are leaving the club. There are a whole load of things to take into consideration.

“We’re now at a point where we can focus solely on the squad that we’ve got available to us. We can push on in the second half of the season.”
