Non-league round-up: Hamlet halt losing streak as Wings denied by late leveller
Dulwich Hamlet ended a run of four straight losses in National League South after they secured a 1-1 draw at Taunton Town in midweek.
Ex-AFC Wimbledon and Bromley attacking midfielder George Porter (pictured above) opened the scoring for Paul Barnes’ side in the 35th minute.
Nana Owusu saw his shot from close range saved by Taunton keeper Jack Bycroft, but the effort landed back at the feet of the Dulwich midfielder, who cut the ball back for Porter.
Hamlet were pegged back midway through the second half when David Sims-Burgess received the ball inside the penalty area and, on the half-turn, fired a shot beyond Charlie Grainger.
Dulwich could have snatched all three points in the final stages of the game but Frankie Raymond’s wide free-kick was unable to be turned home as it crept past Bycroft’s post.
Hamlet – 17th in the National League South – host Tonbridge tomorrow.
Welling United were denied all three points in second-half added time after they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Cheshunt.
Ade Azeez opened the scoring for the Wings in the 51st minute.
Warren Feeney’s side dropped two points in the 94th minute after Cheshunt were awarded a penalty, which forward Reece Beckles-Richards duly put away.
“I said to the boys that I didn’t think we played particularly well but did enough [to get all three points],” explained Feeney. “It’s a real sickener to take but that’s three games unbeaten.”
The Wings travel to fourth-placed Oxford City on Saturday.
Bromley’s game this weekend against Halifax Town has been postponed. They resume their National League campaign on Tuesday at Altrincham.
Tooting & Mitcham United stayed bottom of the Isthmian League South Central Division after a 2-1 defeat at Ashford Town. Kareem Akinnibi scored the Terrors’ only goal of the game.
