Caroline Dubois frustrated despite stoppage win over Mashaury

Caroline Dubois struggled to find many positives after chalking up her sixth professional career win on Saturday night at Wembley’s OVO Arena.

The 22-year-old Olympian knocked down Feriche Mashaury (10-8) near the end of the second round before referee Howard Foster halted a one-sided beating 47 seconds into the third round.

Greenwich-raised Dubois was clearly intent on stopping the Tanzanian quicker than domestic rivals Terri Harper and Chantelle Cameron, who both got the job done in the second round.

“She (Mashaury) is very negative and in those ones it is hard to look good,” super-bantamweight Dubois told iFL TV.

“It’s frustrating, I’m not going to learn from that kind of fight.

“But I had two girls pull out. The first one said she lacked confidence and was not mentally ready. The other [one], their coach’s mother died so she couldn’t step on the plane.

“It was either waste the camp and making weight or we step in the ring and experience it.

“Shane (McGuigan, her trainer) was telling me to slow down and stop rushing. I don’t know why but I thought I had to force her back to the corner and pummel her.

“There was nothing coming back. I should’ve slowed it down and practised a few things in there.”

Dubois (6-0, 5KOs) is planning to box five more times in 2023.

Fulham super-middleweight Zak Chelli (13-1-1) won the vacant WBA Continental title on the same BOXXER show, winning a wide points decision over American Anthony Sims Jr (23-2).

All three judges had Chelli as the victor – two marking it 98-92 with the other going 99-92.
