Danny McNamara on play-off ambition: Hard work vital – but Millwall have belief

Danny McNamara has emphasised that hard work is key as Millwall look to snare one of the Championship play-off places.

The Lions are sixth in the table after their 3-2 win over second-placed Sheffield United.

And next up tomorrow are leaders Burnley in SE16.

McNamara, asked if Millwall’s players believe they are a top-six outfit, said: “We feel like we can turn up to any team. It’s a very good league this year so anyone can beat anyone, we’ve seen it.

“We’ve got a lot of belief that we can probably get in there, but we’re just going to keep working hard. Things can change, but we’ll just keep playing every week as it comes, try and get results and see where it takes us. We’re just going to enjoy the ride.

“We’ve got players who want to work hard every day and want to play week in, week out, and it shows.

“When the lads are coming on and playing, they’re giving 100 per cent. No-one looks out of place.

“We’re going to keep doing that and push on.

“We know that, as a group, we have to dig in until the last minute of games. Anything can happen in a game of football.

“I think the lads might’ve felt a bit tired today, maybe. We’ve had a lot of games, but again, it shows you the character we’ve got and the desire to go again, to keep going and going and going, and grind out results.

“Anyone that comes down to The Den needs to be on it.

“We said at the end that it was one of the best games we’ve played in this season in terms of atmosphere and goals.

“It was end-to-end and we really enjoyed it. I’m really pleased we got a result.”
