Norwich City boss Wagner delighted to see off Millwall at “very, very intense” Den

Norwich City manager David Wagner has given his verdict on their 3-2 win at Millwall today.

The Canaries moved up to sixth in the Championship table with their opponents dropping to seventh after a first home league reverse since September.

Goals from Jacob Sorensen and Gabriel Sara – along with Tom Bradshaw diverting an effort into his own net – sealed maximum points for Norwich.

A crowd of 18,785 – Millwall’s highest attendance for a league game since moving into the The Den – witnessed a match which ebbed and flowed.

Bradshaw had fired the Lions ahead with Zian Flemming’s header from Andreas Voglsammer’s corner giving them late hope of salvaging a point.

Wagner said: “I didn’t know they hadn’t lost since September but it’s a massive win, for sure it is.

“We started not at our best. The occasion, the atmosphere, was very, very intense. We conceded a very avoidable goal and one we’d worked on the whole week – how we would defend these situations. The mistakes that happened in this situation should not happen but they are humans. How we reacted was great.

“We played for periods some very good football in difficult circumstances here. We created good opportunities and scored wonderful goals. We brought it over the line with this commitment, attitude, fighting spirit and togetherness was great. Psychologically it is another important win for us.

“They are a good side. They can always put pressure on you.  They are always dangerous from set-pieces and throw ins. It’s a very pragmatic style but it plays to their strength. It’s anything but easy against them and I’m very, very happy we won today.

“They have a certain length in their team and it is something we thought maybe we could exploit. It’s always important to have good ideas but then it’s about the execution of the guys to make it at the right moment and then to score. We saw today how important set-pieces are. They scored from one as well.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the performance and the result as well, because I know how difficult it is at Millwall.

“We are in the top six now but if the table was irrelevant for the last eight weeks, why should it now be important? It isn’t. At the moment it is not important. The only important thing is Sunday against Sunderland – today it was Millwall. That is where our focus will be.
