Lewisham’s Dan Azeez has two trips to scales to make light-heavy limit for European title challenge
Lewisham’s Dan Azeez has weighed in ahead of his European light-heavyweight title challenge against champion Thomas Faure – but needed two attempts to come in under the limit.
The British and Commonwealth champion is looking to move on to world level if he defeats Frenchman Faure in Paris tomorrow night.
But the fact that Azeez struggled to make the weight without any issues could be a problem. There are countless examples of boxers who then struggle to produce their best after extra trips to the scales.
“I want to be the king of Europe, so why not go and fight for the title anywhere in Europe,” Azeez told Sky Sports. “Ever since I’ve boxed as an amateur I’ve never fought at home – it hardens me.
“The ultimate goal is always to get to the top, grab a world title and, who knows, maybe we can get a defence and another domestic dust-up. For now Thomas is the one in my way and the one I have to get past.”
